Dominica: Trilla On De Mic becomes 2023 Calypso Monarch 

Roseau, Dominica: Trilla On De Mic won the 2023 Calypso Monarch title with his two songs, “De Boy Cut” and “Dick Taylor Ship”, on February 19, 2023, at Carnival city in Dominica. The competition featured ten finalists, and Trilla defeated the 2020 defending King JayDee. 

The event is part of Carnival of Dominica- Mas Domnik 2023 which is known as the platform to showcase the real mass of the country.

The final result of the Calypso Finals are as follows: 

• 1st runner-up: Dice
• 2nd runner-up: Daddy Chess
• 3rd runner-up: Bobb

Dominica Festivals shared glimpses of the event and stated that for the love of Kaiso! The 2023 Calypso Finals filled Carnival City with culture and music as ten finalists vied for the crown.

While extending greeting, Dominica Festivals stated, “Congratulations to Trilla On De Mic for capturing the Calypso Monarch title with “De Boy Cut” and “Dick Taylor Ship”. He is our Calypso Monarch 2023.” 

This bouyon & kaiso artist defeated 2020 defending King JayDee during his first time in the Calypso Monarch competition.” 

For the love of kaiso, the final episode of Carnival stories featured King Jaydee, the 2020 Calypso King. Dominica’s carnival is marked with tradition in music, and calypso is a signature experience – unique in the West Indies.

The Ministry of Tourism of Dominica also extended congratulations to Trilla-G on being crowned Calypso Monarch 2023! His two calypso songs “Dick Taylor Ship” and “De Boy Cut”, were well written and performed.

Embrace Dominica also extended congratulations to Dominica’s new Calypso Monarch – Trilla On De Mic. He impressed everyone with a never-before-heard rendition of “De Boy Cut” stole the show with his performances on stage. 

National Co-operative Credit Union Limited also congratulated to the new Calypso Monarch, their own Gael Trilla-G Jno Baptiste. They were focused and determined, and it was a pleasure supporting him. The best part is that despite being a crowd favourite from the onset, you remained humble and did your best each time.
