Roseau, Dominica: Dominica will participate for the first time at the ALBA Games 2023. The 5th Edition of the Games will be held in Venezuela from April 21 to April 29, 2023. Preparations have been ongoing for Dominica’s participation for the past four months.

A contingent of athletes and officials will leave Dominica Monday for Venezuela where they will represent Dominica at the 5th AlBA. Over 100 participants will represent Dominica in 10 sporting disciplines. The government of Dominica as a member of the AlBA block has agreed to send a representative team for the first time to the games. This is the largest single group of athletes to represent Dominica at any sporting competition. The contingent will participate in athletics, basketball, football (women), volleyball (indoor and beach), table tennis, boxing, chess, cycling, billiards and dominoes.

ALBA Games 2023 will be held at three different venues such as CARACAS, LA GUAIRA and MIRANDA. The games will feature 3500 athletes, professional staff, 9 days, 11 countries, more than 2000 volunteers, 33 sports disciplines, and 29 first class sports facilities.

Adicia Burton will also participate in ALBA Games 2023 and expressed pleasure. She stated that when sports meets pageantry. The Miss Dominica 2023 and member of Dominica’s Volleyball team for the ALBA Games 2023 in Venezuela. She is super excited to be one of the 130 athletes being sent to the games, Dominica’s largest delegation to represent at an international tournament.

While extending greetings to athletes she said, “Congratulations  to my fellow athletes and all the best in your sporting discipline. Thanks to my upbringing I am able to play several sports, three of which I have represented Dominica at regional and international tournaments and this has never hindered me from excelling in my academics. So consider this as your reminder that sports and academics do go hand in hand”

Sports teaches essential life skills; leadership, fairness, unity and respect for diversity. It provides an opportunity for the youth to be ambassadors of their country and foster lasting friendships all over the world. She said that they are grateful for this opportunity and thank the organizers of the ALBA games, the Sports division, coaches, and Dominica’s support team for making this possible. The ALBA games allow us athletes to build much-needed competition experience.
