Roseau, Dominica: Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge will be issued a diplomatic passport to facilitate their travels with their appointment as the Sports Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Dominica. PM Roosevelt Skerrit made the announcement and said that they will also be provided with an allowance to meet some of the basic obligations.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will also intend to host a ceremony for the athletes once the tour of India gets over and announce some further recognition for them from the country’s standpoint.

He said, ”I believe that it is important that we provide them with all necessary support. The motivation they require, they are two young men, and I think the country needs to create a ribbon around them, which is the ribbon of support and solidarity.”

While lauding the athletes, PM Skerrit said that they have very bright futures ahead and he is impressed with their discipline, their focus. They both have gone through their various challenges and their non-selection for some time and wanted to give up, but they have persevered, and today they are part of the West Indies cricket team.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit said, ”Certainly, every one of us looks forward to both of them being on the squad, West Indies versus in India, in Dominica and what a glorious time that will be. I think many people across the region, too, hold great faith in these two gentlemen, and I think it is important for us to support them.”

He further mentioned that this had not been taken to appoint them as the sports ambassadors for Dominica, and when the India tour is over, the government will host an appropriate ceremony in Dominica to give full recognition for their achievements and for their talents.

Showing excitement, PM Skerrit said, ”I am excited about their future and two young men who have persevered and we need to provide them with the support that they require.”
