Dominica to host Indian tour of West Indies in International Test Cricket

Dominica is preparing to once again host international test cricket at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. The first test match of the Indian tour of the West Indies will take place in Dominica in early July.

Roseau, Dominica: Dominica is preparing to once again host international test cricket at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. The first test match of the Indian tour of the West Indies will take place in Dominica in early July.

Minister with responsibility for sports Oscar George said that the government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the return of international test cricket is successful. He stated that India is one of the largest, most influential cricketing teams in the world.

Oscar George said that they have to prepare, they have to interact with all the eyes across to host mighty India, but they have done that in the past so they know what to do except for certain things they have put in place at the top level of the ministerial committee and made up of a number of ministers just to oversee the planning process for the games. He noted that they will have a technical committee made up of various permanent secretaries and various technical persons from the Ministry of Sports and all the Ministries just to do the day-to-day work.

They also have a local organizing committee which is house at the Dominica Cricket Association, and their job is also very important to ensure that all the legwork is done and done in a timely fashion, the minister added.

Dominicans are encouraged to support and patronize the match. Minister George said that the usual lively atmosphere will be on display. “In Windsor Park, there is a wonderful facility and you will need some small upgrades and ahead of the game, an important part is the outfield as there have been some concerns about the colour of the outfield, but there’s nothing to be around and we have been doing some treatment to the outfield by removing all the unwanted grass.

He further said that the preparations are going nicely, and this committee is meeting regularly; they do site visits, they are in communication with the Cricket West Indies and Personnel, and they are in communication with the local organizing committee to ensure that everything is in order. Minister George further noted that the important part of that whole Cricket is the marketing aspect and they will take that opportunity to market Dominica as much as practically possible.

Earlier, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, in his bi-weekly press conference, also announced the staging of the International Cricket in July. The International Cricket was reintroduced on July 20, 2023, when games were hosted at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium of Dominica.
