Dominica takes a step ahead in creating “digital economy”

Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica has decided to move ahead with the world. He announced that all the government operations are being shifted to online platforms.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit declared on Independence Day, that coronavirus crisis has forced the world to move ahead with acceleration that no one had imagined before, and all businesses have been shifted to online platforms.

The leader stated that government services, fee payments are being moved to online platforms.

He stated that as Dominica is working towards creating a digital economy- the government have decided to move its operations to online platforms.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit added that he is committed to building a Dynamic Dominica through improved increased digitisation. He added that his government intends to attract digital nomads as long-stay visitors.

The government of Dominica have also established a dedicated ministry for Digital Economy, which looks upon the new measures that are mandatory to take Dominica forward on digital platforms.

It is also made known that the government of this small Caribbean country is seeking assistance from the World Bank to complete its initiative for a Digital Economy.

Besides this, Prime Minister also talked about the Entrepreneurship Visa Programme that will invite interested investors to make a certain financial investment in Dominica in a particular fund from which MSME’s would receive grand funding.

Furthermore, the leaders stated that the government continues its operations to save the Dominicans from the impacts of coronavirus pandemic. He added that so far, 12.7 million dollars are spent to assist the most vulnerable people harmed by the economic disaster caused by the novel coronavirus.

Prime Minister stated that his government continues its efforts to make sure that every Dominican remains employed, and those who have lost their jobs in the private sector gets compensation from the government.

As per the Prime Minister finance ministry is compiling resources to stand with its people during these unprecedented times.
