Dominica State College secured the victory in the opening match of Sports Division Secondary Schools U20 Basketball Championships. The games were held at the Massacre Indoor Facility on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Roseau, Dominica: Dominica State College secured the victory in the opening match of Sports Division Secondary Schools U20 Basketball Championships. The games were held at the Massacre Indoor Facility on Saturday, February 25, 2023. 

Dominica State College dominates the opening day of the School’s Basketball.

The Sports Division Secondary Schools U20 Basketball Championship commenced on Friday February 24. An official opening ceremony will be held from 2:30pm followed by two championship matches.

The Opening Ceremony had remarks by the Oscar George, Minister with responsibility for Sports, Hon Cassini Laville, member of parliament for Mahaut, Peter Rickitts, president of the Dominica Amateur Basketball Association and Trevor Shillingford, Sports Coordinator in the Ministry of Culture Youth Sports and Community Development.

Following the ceremony, the first match of the championship will be played between Academix and Dominica State College in the girl’s division followed by a boy’s division match up between DSC and St.Marys Academy.

Ten teams are participating in the boy’s division whilst six schools are in the girl’s division. The Goodwill Secondary School and the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School are making a return to school’s basketball after years of absence; Academix will be making their debut in school basketball.

Earlier, the Sports Division also hosted Primary Schools Table Tennis Championship At Massacre, Thursday. A record 137 boys and 109 girls from 30 schools will participate in the Primary Schools table tennis open singles championship.

The two day championship will commence at 10 am on day 1 with competition for the boys and girls.
