Roseau, Dominica: The Sports Division of the Commonwealth of Dominica hosted its second championship for the year with the commencement of the Secondary Schools Volleyball championship on Friday, 13 January 2023.
Ten schools have registered to participate in the girl’s division, whilst nine schools will participate in the boy’s division in Dominica.
On the opening day, Friday, five matches will be played at three venues:
At Portsmouth –
- From 2 pm in the girl’s division, Academix vs Portsmouth Secondary
- From 3;30pm in the boy’s division, Academix vs Portsmouth Secondary
At the CHS Grounds –
- From 2;30pm in the girl’s division, Orion Academy vs Wesley High School
At the PCSS Grounds in Grand Bay –
- From 2 pm in the girl’s division, Dominica Grammar School vs Pierre Charles Secondary
- From 3;30pm in the boy’s division, DGS vs PCSS
Only one of the two games scheduled for Thursday, 12 January, will take place.
In the 13 and Under, the Portsmouth Secondary School will face the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School at Benjamin Park at 2:30 pm.
The match between the Portsmouth Secondary School and the Dominica Grammar School in the U17 Division is postponed due to the DGS Founders day celebration. The match will be rescheduled at a later date.
Sports Division Dominica is committed to staging different sporting events to encourage students and athletes across the country.
Earlier, The Castle Bruce Secondary School steamed rolled over the North East Comprehensive School by 13 goals to nil at the Londonderry playing field today, Wednesday 11 January 2023, to maintain their unbeaten start in the U17 Division of the Sports Division Secondary Schools Football Championship.
Fabio Drigo led all scorers for the Castle Bruce Secondary School with six goals, Dhamario Challenger and Turrie Christmas got two goals each, with Ravon Coipel, Nathaniel Roberts and Kenneth Valmond scoring 1 goal a piece.
One game is scheduled in the U17 Division today, Wednesday, 11 January 2023, in the Sports Division Secondary Schools Football Competition in Dominica.
In Londonderry, the Castle Bruce Secondary School will come up against the North East Comprehensive School from 2:30 pm.
Prior to the commencement of the matches, the schools were presented with a netball compliments the Sports Division in Dominica. The championship continues on Thursday 12th, with two matches at Wesley :
- At 2:30pm NECS vs DGS in the Under 16
- At 3:30pm NECS vs DGS in the Under 20
In the second game the Dominica Grammar School got the better of the Pierre Charles Secondary School by 4 goals to nil. Micah Ettienne and Jayan Lockhart score one goal each and 2 own goal by Pierre Charles Secondary defenders completed the scoring for DGS.
