
Roseau, Dominica: After going down to the Dominica State College in their T20 Cricket encounter, the Saint Lucia Sports Academy football team had to come back from a goal down to Castle Bruce Secondary School, the defending U17 Champions of the Sports Division Football competition, to secure a victory in the Football match.
The Saint Lucia Sports Academy has sheared the spoils so far on their tour on Dominica soil. Before an appreciative crowd at Benjamin Park in Portsmouth, which included the Saint Lucian Sports Academy students, administrators and supporters.
It took both teams some time to settle down in the match. It was the lads from the Castle Bruce Secondary School who broke the dead lock to a nervous beginning to the match when Terrance Winston put the Castle Bruce Secondary School ahead in the first when he a pounce upon a miscued shot from ace striker Fabio Drigo from the side which came across the face of the Saint Lucian goal for a tap in on the far post for the 1 goal to nil lead.
Both teams played a bit better after the opening goal. They created some goal scoring opportunities which were not taken before the Saint Lucia Sports Academy equalizer through Eymany Butcher after a good build up on their left to ball was played across to Eymany who controlled and placed to ball pass the Castle Bruce Secondary School Goalkeeper to level the score.
The first half ended at 1 goal apiece. The second half saw both Schools determined to take the lead a number of chances were creative by both Schools which were either foiled by the defense or shooting was off target. The Saint Lucian Sports Academy was also drawing a number of fouls just outside the Castle Bruce Secondary School penalty area.
When it looked like match was heading for a draw, it was from one of those Freekicks that the Saint Lucia Sports Academy got the winner when the Saint Lucian player struck directly on goal from the freekick the ball eluded the Castle Bruce Secondary School Goalkeeper rebounded of the crossbar and unfortunately for him and the Castle Bruce Secondary School stuck him on the back and into the goal to spark a wild celebration amongst the players and the Saint Lucian Sports Academy supporters.
The Saint Lucia Sports Academy won the match by 2 goals to 1.
The games will continue on Tuesday 11th April from 1 pm with a Cricket match against a selected combined school team, and at 6pm they will come up against the Dominica combined Schools U17 team in football.
