Dominica: PM Skerrit visits Champagne Beach, where govt to build new reception facility

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, went on a visit to the Champagne Beach in the country on Thursday, April 14, 2022. The visit was led by the Prime Minister to take review the various initiatives taken out over the beach.

Further, Prime Minister Skerrit has been accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, who is working on the various activities held on the beach. 

The prime cause of the visit of the prime minister was to take review the building of the new reception facility at the Champagne Beach. The facility has been initiated to improve the experience of the visitors. 

While informing about the visit, PM Skerrit noted, “This morning, I led a site visit to Champagne Beach where the Ministry of Tourism is preparing to build a new reception facility to improve the visitor experience. 

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit further outlined various other projects that were initiated by the government, such as piloting a National Beautification Programme in the area. He also expressed pleasure over the progress of the project and also highlighted some sort of recommendations. 

Prime Minister Skerrit stated, “The Ministries of Tourism and the Environment are also piloting a National Beautification Programme in the area, and I was pleased to note the project’s progress and make some further recommendations.”

He was joined by the various government officials and added, “I was joined by the Tourism Minister and Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere Constituency, Hon. Denise Charles, Minister with responsibility for the Environment Hon. Cozier Frederick, Hon. Dr Irving McIntyre, senior ministry officials, and members of the community.”

Champagne Beach was named “Champagne Beach” because gas bubbles regularly emerge from the volcanic seafloor, creating beautiful underwater magnificence. Its mix of crystal clear water and abundant marine life makes it ideal for snorkelling and diving. The beach itself is rocky, with patches of black volcanic sand.
