Dominica: PM Skerrit to present billion-dollar budget to Tuesday’s sitting of parliament 

The budget of one billion one hundred and nineteen million, eight hundred and twenty-nine thousand and three dollars will be debated in the Parliament scheduled to convene on Tuesday. The said amount of the budget is the estimate of expenditure for the financial year ending June 30, 2022.

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica-Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, is all set to present a billion-dollar budget in the upcoming session of the Parliament. The billion-dollar budget is to be debated in the Parliament of Dominica on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. 

The budget of one billion one hundred and nineteen million, eight hundred and twenty-nine thousand and three dollars will be debated in the Parliament scheduled to convene on Tuesday. The said amount of the budget is the estimate of expenditure for the financial year ending June 30, 2022.

As per the constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the House of 

 Assembly meets for the First Meeting of the Third Session of the Tenth Parliament. 

With the start of the budget session of the Parliament, firstly, the throne speech will be delivered by the President of Dominica- Charles Savarin. After his address, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Investment, Telecommunications and Broadcasting- Roosevelt Skerrit is expected to deliver the National Budget address. 

The Minister of Finance will also ask for permission from the First Caribbean International Band, National Bank of Dominica, Republic Bank and any other approved Financial Institutions to borrow and guarantee by means of overdraft the sum not increased from one hundred and eight million. 

The loan will be completed all the requirements of the current overdraft of the government and guarantee overdrafts to be statutory and public corporations for a further period of one year commencing the 1st day of July 2022. 

At that sitting of the Parliament, the government will also present the report of the Director of Audit of the Public Accounts for the Fiscal year ended June 30, 2020, and June 30 2021. 

Further, the sitting of the Parliament is also expected to witness the report of the Dominica Social Security Annual Report for 2020. 

 A number of committees will be appointed for Tuesday’s sitting of the Parliament, namely, the Public Accounts Committee, Privileges Committee, Standing Orders Committee, Parliamentary Proceeding and Broadcasting and CREAD Parliamentary Oversight Committee. 

Parliament is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
