Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, visited the Canefield East housing development site. At the site, around ten new units are now under construction.
The Government of Dominica is continuing its housing programme in several communities across Dominica to uplift the lives of our citizens. On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, PM Skerrit led a delegation to his visit and shared an update on the under-construction housing unit at the site.
He stated, “This morning, I led a delegation on a visit to the Canefield East housing development site, where ten units are now under construction.”
The Housing sector has been experiencing major bloom under the leadership of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. The government of Dominica delivers climate-resilient homes to the beneficiaries who have lost everything to natural calamities, especially Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Since then, the government and PM Skerrit vowed to become the world’s first climate-resilient nation and decided to donate the hosues which can withstand the disastrous impacts of the natural calamities.
The government hosted several housing programmes, and under those, they delivered homes to the beneficiaries. More than 15000 homes have been delivered to the people of the country so far.
Recently, the government of Dominica launched the Housing Programme dubbed “Future Housing Programme.” On July 16, 2022, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit promised to deliver affordable homes to young people who are 45 or younger.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit stated that the programme could be expanded to the diaspora and benefit the young professionals of Dominica. He outlined that the government of Dominica understand the significance of homeownership, and the programme is not only to put a roof over a family.
Earlier, On July 14, 2022. the government hosted the handover ceremony under the Housing Recovery project in which they donated keys to the climate-resilient homes to 57 individuals.
