Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit urges people to be vigilant after Tropical Storm Watch in effect

Through his social media, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit stated that people should be taken every precautionary measure and monitor the entire situation

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit asked people to remain vigilant and conscious as Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the country. He also urged people to remain in contact with the local media for the latest update about the weather. 

Through his social media, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit stated that people should be taken every precautionary measure and monitor the entire situation. 

He added, “Good morning to all citizens and residents. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Commonwealth of Dominica. During this period, I urge everyone to be vigilant and safe as we closely monitor the situation. Please remain connected to local media for updates.” 

A tropical Storm watch came into effect after the Tropical depression in the Central Atlantic was upgraded to Tropical Storm FIONA. With the turning of the Fiona, the skies remain cloudy, which will result in periods of rain and gusty winds. There would be moderate to torrential showers with scattered thunderstorms after Fiona moves through the area tonight and tomorrow. 

Tropical Storm Fiona, which was 100 miles the North of Dominica on Thursday, now comes about 60 miles NE of Dominica, dubbed 16.4 degrees north latitude and 61.1 degrees west longitude. Tropical Storm extended 140 miles NE of the centre, which could result in three to five inches of rain

POSSIBLE IMPACT ON DOMINICA

• Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 mm) with higher amounts in elevated areas.

• Flash flooding and landslides.

• Wind gusts of Tropical Storm Strength.

• Rough seas on the East, North, and West coasts

Minister of Health of Dominica- Dr Irving McIntrye, also asked people to remain cautious and vigilant for Tropical Storm Fiona. He added, “Greetings all. Please be vigilant today as a Tropical Storm watch is in effect for Dominica. We are monitoring the system closely and will continue to update the public.
