Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit meets Linda Taglialatela- US Ambassador to Barbados

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit met with Linda Taglialatela, who is the United States Ambassador to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean, and the OECS, on Thursday, January 19, 2023, in the Commonwealth of Dominica. 

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit met with Linda Taglialatela, who is the United States Ambassador to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean, and the OECS, on Thursday, January 19, 2023, in the Commonwealth of Dominica. 

The meeting was held at the office of the prime minister in Dominica. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit shared the update on his Facebook account and expressed pleasure. He cited, “I was honoured to meet today with Her Excellency Linda Taglialatela, United States Ambassador to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean and the OECS.” 

PM Roosevelt Skerrit stated that their meeting featured a discussion of a wide range of issues related to the friendly ties between the Commonwealth of Dominica and the United States of America. The multi-lateral ties and bilateral relations were touched on in the meeting.

PM Skerrit stressed that she extended significant support to the government and people of Dominica. He added that she also hailed the country and his administration on its resilient goals. PM Roosevelt Skerrit mentioned, “We discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest for Dominica and the United States.” 

During the meeting, he also extended gratitude to the country for its friendly relations Dominica, which have been going on for many years. He said, “I conveyed our gratitude for the long-standing US support of the Government and people of Dominica.” 

The Ambassador was accompanied by Jonathan McClellan, Second Secretary Vice-Consul.

The bilateral relationship between the United States and the Commonwealth of Dominica was established in 1978. After that, the US provided greater assistance to Dominica in their various efforts. The country received support in expanding its economic base, increasing economic prosperity and strengthening public health. 

Along with that, Dominica has also received assistance in times of natural disasters. The United States has backed Dominica in their climate-resilient goals and the development of the disaster resilience capacity

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is committed to developing the small island nation in the Caribbean- Dominica. He took various measures and vowed to become the world’s first climate-resilient nation. 

In this regard, recently, PM Roosevelt Skerrit also welcomed the new Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Limya Eltayeb and the Head of the Dominica Project Office, Laura Hildebrandt, for a courtesy call at the Office of the Prime Minister earlier today.

During the meeting, the path of the climate resilience of Dominica was widely discussed, and UNDP extended full support to this initiative of government. Along with that the issues such as digital transformation, assistance for the Kalinago community and empowerment of women in agriculture also became part of their meeting.
