Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, met with the United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Linda S. Taglialatela on Friday.
The meeting was held at the office of the prime minister. The meeting featured discussions on several matters of concern. PM Skerrit said that their meeting between the two parties remains cordial.
In a release, the government of Dominica said that Ambassador Taglialatela and her delegation visited Dominica from August 10-13, 2023. It added, “Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit held cordial discussions with the United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Linda S. Taglialatela at the Office of the Prime Minister on Friday.”
The topics of the discussions were:
- Support of the United States for a UN Security Council
- Talked about Haiti’s stability
- Discussed ways to combat climate change
- Proposed stringent climate action
- Discuss COP 28
Further, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit asked for the support of the United States to resolve several issues in the region. He also outlined several proposals of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to improve the situation in Haiti.

Besides this, the meeting has also focused on the proposal of CARICOM for a UN Security Council resolution for the deployment of an international security force to restore peace and stability in Haiti.

The focal point of the meeting was COP 28. PM Roosevelt Skerrit said that climate change is one of the biggest challenges in front of the world. There should be the implementation of stringent measures to combat the issue so that the small island developing states escape from its deadly impacts.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit also proposed a collective approach at COP 28 on climate change issues to build resilience and facilitate climate financing for small, vulnerable states.
He also talked about the friendly and trusted relations between CARICOM member states and the United States. He said that the government of Dominica will also work to enhance their bilateral ties.
