Roseau, Dominica: In order to strengthen the infrastructure, the government of Dominica handed over keys to new homes to fifty-seven beneficiaries under the Housing Recovery Project.
On Thursday, July 14, 2022, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit handed over the keys to the new homes to the recipients during a ceremony at the State House Conference Centre.
PM Skerrit also expressed pleasure while donating keys to the new houses to the beneficiaries and stated that this is another step of the government to fulfil their aim of becoming the world’s first climate-resilient nation.
Through his social post, he noted, “Fifty-seven (57) individuals are now the proud recipients of new homes under the Government of Dominica’s Housing Recovery Project.”
Keys were handed over during a ceremony at the State House Conference Center on Thursday, July 14, 2022.
The construction of the newly built climate-resilient houses was funded by the World Bank. The government of Dominica is donating new houses to the beneficiaries who have lost their houses in Hurricane Maria. Around 420 houses were destroyed by Hurricane Maria, and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit asserted that these would be rebuilt to more resilient standards.

Prime Minister Skerrit said, “With loan funds from the World Bank, 420 houses destroyed by Hurricane Maria will be rebuilt to more resilient standards.”
He assured that the government of Dominica remains true to its commitment to providing all citizens with the opportunity to own a home and secure brighter futures for their families.
Prime Minister Skerrit extended greetings to the beneficiaries and expressed, “I congratulate the beneficiaries and wish them well.”
Further, the Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Central Constituency- Melissa Poponne Skerrit, also took to Twitter and congratulated the beneficiaries who benefited from the government’s Housing Recovery Programme.
She added that more than 57 people are proud owners of climate resilient homes.
