Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, attended the ceremony to honour the former Secretary General of CARICOM, Ambassador Irwin Larocque, along with the Ambassador of Japan Yutaka Matsubara.
He took to social media and stated, “I joined His Excellency Yutaka Matsubara, Ambassador of Japan to Dominica, in a ceremony on Friday to honour the former Secretary General of CARICOM, Ambassador Irwin Larocque.”
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that Ambassador Larocque was praised for his dedicated service to the region over many years. At the helm of the CARICOM Secretariat from 2011 to 2021, he is credited with providing strategic leadership for the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
He had previously served as a senior public officer in the Government of Dominica and an advisor on matters of economic integration and regional and international trade.
The Government once again thanks Ambassador Larocque for his extraordinary service and wishes him well.
Earlier, Prime Minister Skerrit also welcomed Yutaka Matsubara, Ambassador of Japan to Dominica, for a courtesy call on Friday, October 14.
During the meeting, they held cordial talks reaffirming the long-standing cooperation between our two countries and expressed hope for the further strengthening of ties.
On October 14, 2022, a presentation ceremony was held for the conferment of the Japanese National Decoration, “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” upon His Excellency Irwin Joseph LaRocque, Ambassador and former Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) at the Fort Young Hotel, in Dominica.
The ceremony was attended by Charles A. Savarin, D.A.H., President of the Commonwealth of Dominica and his wife Savarin; Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica; Dr. Kenneth Darroux, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations; MATSUBARA Yutaka, Ambassador of Japan to the Commonwealth of Dominica, along with many more specially invited guests, government officials and members of the media.
