Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit announces snap general elections to be held on December 6

The Commonwealth of Dominica will witness snap general elections on December 6, 2022. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, during his national address, announced the date of the elections and stated that nomination day in Dominica shall be Friday November 18 2022.

Roseau, Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica will witness snap general elections on December 6, 2022. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, during his national address, announced the date of the elections and stated that nomination day in Dominica shall be Friday November 18 2022.

He stated that the Dominica Labour Party would reveal its new looks slate of candidates in Roseau on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. He cited that he wrote to the president and advised him to dissolve the current parliament of the country with immediate effect. 

“The general elections day in Dominica, the day on which the labour party will be sickened of fresh mandate with a fresh team, is Tuesday, December 6 2022, “said the prime minister. 

He further expressed being honoured to use the benefits of his 22 years of experience in politics to lead the Dominican Labour Party and this country through this period of global social, political and economic uncertainty. 

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit stated that they should be the change that the country requires as we continually reshape, adjust and correct cause as they move steadfastly towards a “Dynamic Dominica” of resilient Dominica with that in mind he shall lead a new look Dominica to lower part into fresh January elections that will be held at the soonest possible time. 

He added, “I went for the year 2023, to begin with a fresh mandate given to a fresh labor team to commence the work of building post COVID Dominica with this in mind today.” 

PM Skerrit asserted that Dominica need a refreshed Dominica labour party team for these very unpredictable, unprecedented and very challenging times following the changes they made in 2019.

Further, he stated that the Dominica Labour Party has not shoot from making changes that enable it to remain Dynamic, relevant and inspiring in the last general elections they introduce to the people a new slate of candidates that included 11 new Young and energetic faces. 

“The challenges that they have faced have not been for the faint-hearted they would have come into office at one of the most difficult times in our history what we had hoped to achieve has been in many ways set off by the covet pandemic we are at a crucial stage of national development and we have to ensure that we have the right team for these times the road ahead will be challenging it will be difficult we believe that the Dominica Labour party must look across on the country and secure the perfect skill set for these uncharted waters accordingly there will be some changes to a parliamentary team, “said the prime minister.
