Roseau, Dominica: The Ministry of Tourism, International Transport, and Maritime Initiatives of Dominica hosted the workshop on Oil Spill National Contingency Planning at Jungle Bay. The workshop organized for three days as it is started on August 16, 2022, and ended on August 18, 2022. 

The workshop has been jointly organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Ministry of Tourism and RAC/REMPEITC.  

Through social media, the Ministry of Tourism stated, “From August 16 to 18th, Dominica hosted the workshop on Oil Spill National Contingency Planning at Jungle Bay Dominica! The International Maritime Organization (IMO), RAC/REMPEITC, the Government of Dominica, and Ministry of Tourism, International Transport, and Maritime Initiatives jointly organized.” 

In the workshop, a total of twenty-five Maritime-related agencies received certificates. The agencies were named as DASPA, Coast Guard, Oil Companies, Lands and Surveys, Office of Disaster Mgt, Environmental Health Dept, Customs Excise, Fisheries Division, Ministry of Tourism, and Shipping Companies. 

The Ministry mentioned, “A total of twenty-five (25) Maritime-related agencies such as DASPA, Coast Guard, Oil Companies, Lands and Surveys, Office of Disaster Mgt, Environmental Health Dept, Customs Excise, Fisheries Division, Ministry of Tourism, and Shipping Companies in Dominica received certificates.” 

The workshop was mainly focused on the various approaches and technologies used by maritime nations in order to prevent and combat oil spills. It added, “This workshop updated us on the latest approaches, technologies, and best practices, adopted by maritime nations in preventing and combating oil spills.”

The Ministry of Tourism further asserted that international vessels visit the shores of the Commonwealth of Dominica, and they are pursuing significant expansion of the cruise tourism industry, which includes yachting and dive tourism sectors. 

 It added, “A subject to which we, in Dominica, attach great importance considering that international vessels visit our shores and our Ministry is pursuing expansion of the cruise tourism industry, yachting, and dive tourism sectors.”
