Roseau, Dominica: Melissa Poponne Skerrit- Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency, hosted the Urban Agriculture Training program to promote modern farming techniques and generate equipment for the people of the region with hydroponics farming.
She announced the development on Thursday, August 18, 2022, through her Facebook post, adding that the Urban Agriculture Training Programme will provide the opportunity for farmers to master their skills in modern farming techniques. It will ultimately lead to the enhancement of agriculture.
Melissa Skerrit asked people to join the training program, noting, “Roseau Central, are you ready to master modern farming techniques? Well, here is a great opportunity.”
She also uploaded the post to outline the criteria of the Training and stated that The Urban Agriculture Training program would provide instruction on root crop grow bags, hydroponics, rooftop farming, vertical farming and much more. Interested participants should register now.”
The training programme is free and facilitated by the Chinese Agricultural Mission and open to all the citizens of the constituency.

Earlier on Wednesday, Melissa Skerrit also announced that the people of the constituency are allowed to grow crops which are nutrient-rich such as vegetables, leafy greens, fruits and also flowers. She announced the availability of Hydroponics farming.
She added, “No farmland in the city? No problem! Let’s skip the soil and grow our crops in nutrient-rich water. Roseau Central, get ready for Hydroponics farming.”
Melissa Skerrit added that the hydroponics framing technique would help to increase:
- Increase your production rate 3 to 10 times in the same amount of space.
- Produce twice as fast in a well managed hydroponic system.
- Up to 90% more efficient use of water.
