Dominica: Melissa Skerrit extends greetings to 6 graduates of 12-week visual performing arts course
Roseau, Dominica: Melissa Poponne Skerrit- Parliamentary Representative for Roseau Central Constituency, extended warm wishes and greetings to six graduating students in the field of visual performing arts course.
The course was conducted by Al Mathurin, an expert in the Visual and Performing Arts. In order to uplift the educational skills and knowledge of the young generations, initiatives were born. The government launched the 12-week Theatrical Training programme in order to usher them into the design and production industry in the country.
PM Skerrit, “I am pleased to highlight the six graduating students of the visual performing arts course conducted by the esteemed Al Mathurin. “This ongoing training in Roseau Central is targeted at young individuals in order to usher them into the design and production industry in Dominica.
Various filed have been encompassed by the course. Students have been given training about various curricular activities such as costume plats and design and many more. Courses completed included theatre history, costume plates and design, props, script analysis, lighting and scenic design.
The ultimate aim of this journey is to contribute to the Carnival industry locally and regionally. Melissa Skerrit stated that she is looking forward to the creativity of these graduate students, which will make their future bright.
She asserted, “I foresee a bright future ahead of them, and I look forward to seeing their creativity brought to life.”
The 12-week Theatrical Training Programme was launched in the early month of February 2022 for the enhancement of the skills of the youth.
The programme consisted of a wide range of skill training that would facilitate the youth population, which would provide skills such as scenic design, lighting, stage management, drama, costume design, production management, public speaking and interviews.
During the launch, Melissa Skerrit met with the Roseau Central LYO (Labour Youth Organization) and designated 2022 as a year of personal development, job opportunities and skills training. In so doing, she proposed several plans to aid the youth in attaining those goals.
Various skills have been instilled in the youth and stated that the training programme would enhance the skills of making CV, writing portfolio and resume drama.
