Sports Division of Dominica launched the primary school girls football championship on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. The launch was taken place to celebrate International Women's Day.

Roseau, Dominica: Sports Division of Dominica launched the primary school girls football championship on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. The launch was taken place to celebrate International Women’s Day. 

Sports Division took to Facebook and invited the people in celebration, citing, “Join us in celebrating International Women’s Day as we showcase the involvement of our Girls in Sports with the launch of the Primary Schools Girls Football Championship.” 

Fourteen Schools comprising 12 teams will participate in Three Zones as we kick off the Girls’ Championship of the NBD Primary Schools Football Championship on International Women’s Day.

  • In the South East Zone at CastleBruce, the Sineku Primary, Grand Fond/Morne Jaune Primary combined, and Castle Bruce Primary and Atkinson Primary Schools will face each other.
  • In Londonderry in the North East Zone, W S Steven’s Primary, Concord Primary, Bense/Thibaud Primary combined and the Baroness Patricia Scotland Primary Schools will compete.
  • While over at Lindo Park, in the South West Zone, Goodwill Primary, Roseau Primary, Grand Bay Primary and Massacre Primary will do battle.
  • Matches at all Zones begin at 12 noon. 

Earlier, on Sunday, the Sports Division held it’s annual Women and Girls Sports Festival at the Lindo Park in Goodwill. The festival is held annually to coincide with International Women’s Day and to show the role of women in sports.

The women participated in a 3K road race, rounders, netball, volleyball and football.

During the netball final of the women, defending champions, Dominica State College has made their place in Academix in Schools U20 Netball Final. 

DSC secured a win in the playoff match to determine the second finalist in Sports Division Secondary Schools U20 Netball Championship in a match played at Benjamin’s Park on Monday.

  • Scoring for DSC were :

  • Dezra Clarke- 3/6

  • Shakira Sorhaindo- 1/1.
  • DSC will meet the Academix School of Learning in the final on Friday, March 10 at the Massacre Indoor Facility.
