Dominica kicked off its Inaugural Free Diving Competition on Wednesday (June 21, 2023). The competition will again resume on Monday (June 26, 2023).

Roseau, Dominica: Dominica kicked off its Inaugural Free Diving Competition on Wednesday (June 21, 2023). The competition will again resume on Monday (June 26, 2023). 

The Ministry of Tourism of Dominica shared glimpses of the competition and said, “Deep Dominica’s Inaugural Free Diving Competition began with a bang on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.” 

The event will feature six competition days, all disciplines, AIDA and CMAS. Currently, a total of 51 individuals are in Dominica for this thrilling competition. 40 Free Divers, 20 of which are athletes, four judges, six members of the Safety Team, including a doctor, and a photographer who specializes in underwater photography and video. 

The southwest of Dominica is buzzing with excitement not only for the much anticipated Dive Fest 2023 but the Free Diving Competition. The Ministry of Tourism wished all of the divers the best of luck in their competitions.

The Ministry of Tourism shared the entry fee and schedule of the inaugural Free Diving Competition which are as follows: 

Entry Fee: 600 USD

  • Deposit: 200 USD (non-refundable).

Training Fees:

  • Weekly training: 125 USD.
  • Official training with safety 1 week before the competition: 175 USD.

Schedule:

  • June 21: registration/meeting.
  • June 22: rest day. 
  • June 23: competition day.
  • June 24: competition day.
  • June 25: rest day.
  • June 26: competition day.
  • June 27: competition day.
  • June 28: rest day.
  • June 29: competition day.
  • June 30: competition day/closing ceremony.

How to get to Dominica:

From America:

  • Direct flight Miami-Dominica.
  •  Direct flight San Juan-Dominica.
  • Flight to a neighboring island (Barbados, Guadeloupe etc.) + flight/ferry to Dominica.

From Europe:

  • Flight Paris-Guadeloupe/Martinique + ferry Guadeloupe/Martinique-Dominica.
  •  Flight to Miami + direct flight to Dominica.

 NOTES: 

When looking for flights, don’t get confused with the Dominican Republic (DO). The correct airport is Melville Hall (DOM), also known as Charles Douglas.

The airport is in Marigot, in the north of the island. To get to Soufriere, you will take a taxi. It is a 1.30-hour ride, and it costs 100usd. The ferry is in Roseau. To get to Soufriere, people will take a taxi. It is a 30-minute ride, and it costs 40 USD.
