Roseau, Dominica: Jahrie Prince of Dominica selected as the 12th recipient of the 2023 Billy Doctrove Scholarship. Former Student of the WS Stevens Primary School, Prince received the scholarship from Bid Edge Financial.
He represented the W Stevens Primary School in numerous championship. He has also remained the top scorer of the National Assessment Exams.
Sports Division of Dominica shared glimpses of the hand over ceremony and lauded Prince for his outstanding performance as an athlete. While becoming the 12th recipient, he will be able to excel himself in sports.
The Sports Division has selected Prince for the scholarship on behalf of Big Edge Financial, making him to pave the successful path in the sporting field. The annual scholarship is presented to an outstanding student athlete from the Primary Schools.
Jahrie Prince
Jahrie Prince was the student from the primary schools of the Marigot Constituency. He represented Dominica at the OECS junior table tennis championships in Grenada. Prince secured the victory in the Primary Schools singles table tennis championship.
While scoring great scores, he was successful at the National Assessment Exams and sporting events on the level of the primary schools. Prince had been recognized as the few athletes who represented school and win the team events.
He was also the leading goal scorer for his school in the 2023 Primary School Football Championship.
Jahrie Prince became the winner in the Boys’ Division of the Primary Schools Volleyball Festival. He represented his primary schools in the championship and showed great performance. He was also the prominent member in the school’s football and cricket teams.
Jahrie Prince is all set to pursue his studies in the North Eastern Comprehensive School and start his new journey.
2023 Billy Doctrove Scholarship
Billy Doctrove Scholarship 2023 is the annual scholarship provided to the primary school students every year. The scholarship is given to the student who performed exceptionally well in studies and several sporting events.
The scholarship is worth around $1,000. It provide significant assistance to the recipients in their studies and sports. The top performers of the national assessment exam and different sporting activities has been selected for the scholarship.
The scholarship is started by the Billy Doctrove who is the celebrated cricketer and football referee. He played club cricket in Dominica as a right-hand batsman for a long period of time. With the passing of time, he evolved himself in the sports and became Dominica’s first FIFA referee.
He also played an official role in several championships in Caribbean, including a World Cup qualifier between Guyana and Grenada in 1996.
With his successful career in sports, he decided to support the students or sports athletes who are financially unstable. He started the Billy Doctrove Scholarship and laid the foundation of the Big Edge Financial.
Now, Big Edge Financial in collaboration with Sports Division of Dominica select exceptional students for the scholarship.
