Dominica High Court adjourns Mehul Choksi’s hearing to 25 June

The High Court of Dominica adjourned the hearing of fugitive Mehul Choksi till 25 June 2021 into the matter of alleged illegal entry to the country. 

Dominica: The High Court of Dominica adjourned the hearing of fugitive Mehul Choksi till 25 June 2021 into the matter of alleged illegal entry to the country. 

The hearing, which was to take place on 14 June 2021, was adjourned as Choksi did not appear in the Roseau Magistrate court due to a decline in his health conditions. Earlier, the fugitive businessman was pleaded not guilty to entering Dominica island on 23 May 2021, and the bail plea of Choksi was dismissed by the Judge of the high court. 

On the hearing of 14 June 2021, two of Dominica’s top criminal attorneys joined Choksi’s legal team for the matter. Zena Moore Dyer and her daughter, Gina Dyer Munro, joined Julien Prevost, Wayne Norde and Cara Shillingford Marsh. 

The lawyers of fugitive Mehul Choksi introduced a medical document in front of the Court, which cited that Choksi’s medical condition is not good, and as a result, he is incapable of attending the proceeding.

Harpreet Singh Giana, who is an Indian-born lawyer based in London, England, also joined the prosecution team and stated that he is a consultant to the prosecution in Mehul Choksi’s case. 

Currently, the fugitive businessman, since 29 May 2021,  is under observation in the Dominica China friendship hospital under police custody. 

The fugitive businessman and his nephew – Nirav Modi are wanted in the ₹ 13,500 crore scam case of PNB- Punjab National Bank. Choksi fled with his nephew in 2018 from India.
