Roseau, Dominica: Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment of the Commonwealth of Dominica bid farewell to Dr Irving McIntyre on December 31, 2022, as he will now be at the helm of the Ministry of Finance.
Dr Irving McIntyre handed over his former Ministry to his successor, Cassanni Laville. Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment of Dominica shared glimpses of the farewell and handover ceremony on their Facebook Page.
The Ministry of Health cited, “The end of 2022 was a busy one for the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services. As we prepared to usher in the New Year, the Ministry of Health bid farewell to Dr Irving McIntyre, who will now be at the helm of the Ministry of Finance.”
Laville and the new Minister of State, Dr Cassandra Williams, were welcomed and introduced to the Heads of Division and the Ministry also welcomed back Parliament Secretary Kent Edwards.
Laville, in his first official engagement with partners of the Ministry of Health, met with World Bank consultants Dr Ben Chan and Dr Lerly Luo, who were on the island performing a rapid assessment of the capacity of Dominica’s primary healthcare system to diagnose, treat, and manage Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
The consultants, who also met with the Health Administration and other relevant Heads of Divisions, presented their initial findings, which included best practices with recommendations and strategies to improve NCD management in Dominica. The final report will be presented to the Ministry later on.
The Ministry of Health of Dominica also welcomed back on the island Dr Andy Partapsingh, Advisor, Health Services and Access at the Pan American Health Organization, to continue the consultation on the Strategic Plan for Health, which is one of the activities which form part of the Advancement of Dominica’s Health System Transformation for Achieving Universal Health project.
In addition to the new initiatives, the Ministry of Health welcomed back the portfolio of Social Services and looks forward to working, once again, alongside the dedicated staff of that division. The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services of the Commonwealth of Dominica extended its warmest wishes to all and looks forward to continued collaboration for a healthier Dominica.
On the occasion of the new year, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also extended their warmest wishes with an inspiring message. He added, “I wish every one of you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year and give you the assurance that the Government and I look forward to working with you on these New Year’s resolutions which will help us achieve Dynamic Dominica.”
