Dominica: The High Court of the Commonwealth of Dominica has granted bail to the fugitive Mehul Choksi on the health grounds. Earlier, the lawyers of fugitive Choksi claimed that he is not well to come in the proceedings of the court as he suffers various health issues.
With this, the Dominica High Court has also given permission to the fugitive Mehul Choksi to go back to Antigua and Barbuda until he gets fit while all the trials in the High Court have been adjourned.
The lawyers of fugitive Choksi had filed a review petition and affidavit stating that Choksi needs urgent neurological treatment in Antigua.
The High Court of Dominica has also applied some conditions on granting the bail that is –
- Fugitive Indian businessman has to submit 10,000 EC (Eastern Caribbean dollar) in the high court.
- Choksi has to give his full address of where he would reside in Antigua and Barbuda Caribbean island, and his address in Dominica to the Dominica High Court.
- Choksi has to give assurance of his presence in front of the Dominica high court after his treatment in Antigua and Barbuda.
- The high court must be kept updated regarding the health condition of fugitive Mehul Choksi.
For the time, the proceedings of the court have been adjourned until the fugitive businessman gets totally fit and returns from Antigua and Barbuda after receiving his treatment.
Earlier, the Dominica High Court has preponed Mehul Choksi hearing from July 23 to July 12, 2021, after the claims of his lawyers that he requires an urgent neurological treatment that cannot be facilitated in Dominica.
The 62-year-old diamond businessman is wanted by the Indian government in the scam of 13,500 crores (Indian Rupees) from a state-owned bank – PNB – Punjab National Bank. The fugitive businessman fled from Indian in the year 2018.
