Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit says the government of Dominica has engaged a number of small business owners and other private sector representatives in preparation for the 2023/24 national budget.

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit says the government of Dominica has engaged a number of small business owners and other private sector representatives in preparation for the 2023/24 national budget.

On his official Twitter account, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared glimpses and said that the new budget will focus on the overall development of Dominica.  

Speaking at his bi-weekly press conference in May, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that the prime focus of the 2023-24 national budget will be sustainable economic development. Several policies, plans and initiatives will be framed in the new budget promoting sustainability. 

He asserted that as a small island nation, they have to face several challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the effects of the Ukraine- Russia War and the collapse of the economy. Hence, these challenges will be taken into consideration when planning the 2023-2024 budget.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit cited that the budget will be transparent and will promote renewable energy development. It will assist the government in harnessing the advances the government have made in several sectors, such as the construction of the International Airport, hotel development and agriculture. 

He said that the fiscal package will fulfil the need of the people as well as showcase the approach of the government to manage the country’s affairs. The blue economy will also be highlighted in the 2023-24 national budget. It will outline development and investment with clear policy direction to advance the economy. 

During the conference, PM Roosevelt Skerrit said that the Finance Ministry will meet with various stakeholders for the preparation of the budget. 

He also asserted that the government will develop a more strategic approach to public sector expenditure, ensuring that their approach to public spending reflects the realities of all times. The budget will highly promote economic development in all sectors so that the country can be able to fulfil the needs of its citizens and work for their development and welfare.
