Dominica government so far invested 18.5 Million in sports sector: PM Skerrit

During the recent Annou Pale episode, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica highlighted the various work done by the Dominican government to strengthen the sports sector of the country so as to provide oceans of opportunities to the youth.

Dominica: During the recent Annou Pale episode, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica highlighted the various work done by the Dominican government to strengthen the sports sector of the country so as to provide oceans of opportunities to the youth.

The Prime Minister noted that over the past year, the Dominican government had made significant investments of around 18.5 million dollars in order to boost the sports sector of the island.

The Dominican government has recreated the sports sector by construction, improvement and expanding the sporting facilities. PM Skerrit then further highlighted the new hardcourts, which are opened this year at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Roseau.

Besides this, the Dominican government has also opened new sports facilities in the region of Woodfordhill. The Prime Minister further noted that a sports facility is ongoing in the area of Geneva Grand Bay and in Massacre with the new indoor facility, which would soon be opened for the youth.

“We have prioritized the development of sports, and the youth,” PM Skerrit asserted.

Earlier in the month of June, the Sports Minister of Dominica – Roselyn Paul, with other Cabinet members and PM Skerrit, inaugurated three more sports courts at Windsor Park, the stadium on the Caribbean island.

The Prime Minister cited that the construction of these new sports courts at Windsor holds great significance and will help the youth to display their
greatest talents in Volleyball, Netball and Basketball.

Following the statement, the Prime Minister has also encouraged the youth to participate as much as they can in the field of sports so as to keep themselves fit in the times where the youth is sitting and using the mobile phones and to make themselves and their country proud.

Two athletes are all set to represent the Commonwealth of Dominica in the Tokyo Olympics this yea. The island would compete in the sport of Athletics with its two athletes who are – Ms Thea Lafond and Mr Dennick Luke.

Besides this, PM Skerrit also noted the developments and investments made by the Dominica government in the field of Small Business Support and Geothermal Energy. The Dominican government is committed and is fulfilling its promise of a new and prosperous Dominica.
