Roseau, Dominica: The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has announced the commissioning of the Massacre Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Complex. On Sunday, the government launched the facility through the handover ceremony.
Costing around 2.5 million dollars, the facility aimed to encourage youth sports involvement, and the government stated that it is another example of their commitment to the upliftment of sports.
Outlining some aspects of the facility, Roselyn Paul- Minister of Sports, Culture, Community Development of Dominica, asserted that the Sports Complex would emerge as the game changer for the sporting facilities in the constituency. With a seating capacity of over 500, the seats of the complex are also movable.
She explained, “We have heard the cry of sportspersons involved in basketball, netball and basketball, the difficulties they faced to compete on surfaces which posed dangers. We have heard the cries of organizers who had to cancel their events due to rain. Our government has been responding.”
Comprising two rooms for the accommodation of the two teams, Sports Ministers highlighted that the facility also consists of public restrooms for audiences. The state-of-the-art electronic clock, and rooms with showers are some impressive facilities of the complex. She stated that the construction of such facilities always played a significant role in the country’s growth, and the multi-purpose indoor sports complex will ensure that players can grow in their physical and advanced technical abilities.
Further highlighting the importance of the facility, Sports Minister asserted that it would encourage sports tourism, higher participation of youth in sports, and improve economic activity around the constituency; by keeping these things in mind, she added that the government is constructing more outdoor facilities like that.
Member of Parliament for the Mahaut Constituency Rayburn Blackmoore also highlighted some aspects of the complex and stated that it would support the unfavourable weather conditions and enable them to host the sports events during that period.
He stressed that this new facility ensures the government’s commitment to improving the sports sector. “I feel a great sense of satisfaction, pride, gratitude and indeed much emotion to be standing before you on such a momentous occasion,” said Cabinet Minister and Parliament Representative from Mahaut Rayburn Blackmoore.
He outlined that the indoor sports facility was the dream project of the people of Massacre. Minister Blackmoore expressed his excitement and said he is happy to deliver the diverse, modernized and advanced facility to people. He noted that the Mahaut constituency also gave one of the players in the field of basketball, cricket and football.
