Roseau, Dominica: The government of Dominica announced that the flow testing of the 2nd production well of the geothermal power plant project in Laudat has commenced. The government stated that the flow testing started on April 6, 2023.

The government of Dominica took to Facebook to share glimpses of the flow testing and added, “Flow testing of the 2nd Production Well of the Geothermal Development Project in Laudat has commenced.”

Vince Henderson- Parliamentary Representative for the Grand Bay constituency, also expressed pleasure in sharing glimpses of the Geothermal Project. He stated that the drilling of the well was completed late last year, and flow testing will be ongoing for the next four weeks.

Vince Henderson stated, “Good morning, everyone in particular, the wonderful people of the Grand Bay Constituency. I am happy to report that geothermal development in Dominica continues with the commencement of flow testing of the second production well at Laudat.”

He outlined that drilling of the well was completed late last year, and flow testing will be ongoing for the next four weeks. This will determine the energy potential of the well and takes them one step closer to the construction of the power plant.

Preparatory works have been completed in the Roseau Valley for the drilling of two geothermal wells to advance Dominica’s Geothermal Energy Project. Local firm, ACE Engineering Ltd was contracted to construct two well pads, access roads to the sites and a temporary water supply for the drilling operations.

The well pads include an oil/water separator tank to remove run-off sediments and other waste from the water before releasing into the environment, as well as a mud-pit to manage waste generated from drilling. A well pad was a relatively flat work area within the geothermal field used for drilling a well. Iceland Drilling Company Ltd. will undertake the drilling later this year.

Minister for Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy, Dr Vince Henderson, led a site visit to the area on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

Geothermal Project is one such step of the government of Dominica toward its goal to become the world’s first climate-resilient nation. It will help the country to reduce its carbon footprints across the nation and make it an efficient step to mitigate the effects of the climate-change.Â
