Roseau, Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica expanded Anse De Mai Jetty- a fishing village and port facility located between Calibishie and Portsmouth. The expansion will assist in enhancing the trade for the farmers with the regional markets.
The Ministry of Tourism shared glimpses of the port and said that Anse De Mai Jetty’s expansion is essential to the prosperity and development of the community. The port facilitates trade and makes it easier for farmers in the northeast to export their goods to regional markets.
It also serves as a harbour for vessels carrying vital supplies post-disasters and for welcoming visitors for special events like World Creole Music Festival, St. Peter’s Feast, and more.
Lakeyia Joseph, Paix Bouche Constituency Parliamentary Representative, PS Lisa Valmond, and representatives from the Ministry of Public Works, Customs, Immigration, Community Groups, Village Council, and the Tourism Team also visited the site.
The expansion of the jetty will benefit everyone, and the Ministry of Tourism is committed to working with the community and public works to make sure of it. Outlining the next mission on the site, the Ministry of Tourism will also finalise the site design.
Dominica is known as the Nature Isle of the Caribbean and is home to more than 365 rivers, the world’s second-largest boiling lake and magnificent flora and fauna. It consists of diverse and colourful rainforests that offer unimaginable diving experiences, boat tours, hikes, cuisine, and more, defining the true appearance of paradise.
Dominica is home to dozens of species of flora and fauna and works to preserve the natural environment for generations to come. Three key species, the Crapo frog, indigenous Sisserou Parrot and Leatherback turtle, call Dominica home and are a part of their conservational efforts.
An important part of conservation is awareness of the flora and fauna in the shared environment. Dominica continues to be the Nature Island of the Caribbean, working in various sectors to ensure health and sustainability.
