Dominica: Education Minister attended construction ceremony of Mahaut Primary School

Dominica: The construction ceremony of Mahaut Primary School was held on Wednesday. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit and other Cabinet members including the Minister of Education Octavia Alfred attended the event.

The Education Minister informed that the government is developing centres which would include libraries, Si bay ICT, science labs, kitchenette and staff quarters facilities.

She further appreciated and thanked the efforts of the former principal and the current principal of Mahaut Primary School for ensuring the education and co-curricular activities of the students in the tough times after Hurricane Maria destroyed the building of the school.

She noted that as per the policy, every school must include an early childhood centre to provide that particular sector of the students as these centres would help in the holistic development of a child.

Following the statement, she further asserted that the government had already opened Watson Salisbury Bells, Concord, Rosa, Primary, Warner and Prosper, and Mahaut primary school would also get a fully equipped early childhood facility.

The minister informed that all of the new schools built by the Dominica government include facilities for physically challenged students. In addition, new school buildings have been designed with places to develop talents and boost sports and cultural activities among the students.

The Education Minister further added that a clean and modern learning space necessary to enhance the levels of students. She stated that a good infrastructure draws the interest of the students and help them to improve attendance. Minister Alfred stated that a good environment also motivates the teachers to perform their best.

“The government of Dominica continues to invest in improving the school plans to ensure the comfort of the teachers, students, and administrators.” stated the Education Minister.

During her speech, she expressed her excitement and stated that this is a long-awaited moment for the people and students who have looked forward to the resumption of school in the original environment after Hurricane Maria damaged the school structure.
