Roseau, Dominica: The disaster management department of the Commonwealth of Dominica issued a weather advisory and shared an update on Tropical Storm Fiona.
The Department, while issuing a statement, stated that a Central Atlantic witnessed tropical depression, which was now converted into Tropical Strom FIONA last night.
Reportedly, Tropical Storm Fiona was located about 500 miles to the east of the Leeward Islands on Thursday, September 15, 2022. Department stated that the westerly direction of the northern Leeward has been witnessing the fast movement of Fiona. It is also expected that the centre of Fiona would be passed about 100 miles to the north of Dominica late Friday into Saturday.
The impact of the winds from Fiona will be minimal as per the current track. Although, the chances of Rainfall in the amounts of 2 to 4 inches are higher across Dominica. It is also expected that the Rainfall will be held with higher amounts in elevated areas.
The Department advised the residents of the Commonwealth of Dominica that they must continue to stick to the regular updates of the weather and monitor the progress of this weather system. The Tropical Storm has been moving toward and crossing the northern Leeward Island late Friday into Saturday.
Various things, such as Rainfall, which will result in flash flooding and landslides, turned out to be a concern for the country during the passage of Tropical Storm Fiona and this weather system.
They stated that all the residents should be aware and should be done their pre-planning ahead of Friday as it will be for the weekend.
Outlining the precautions, Department mentioned that during the Rainfall, people must not choose to cross waterways and flooded roadways. In addition to that, the risk of secondary hazards might pose a threat, such as various landslides in vulnerable areas.
They stated that further information about the weather would be available.
