Dominica: Denise Charles opens Pointe Michel Multi-Purpose Hardcourt

Minister of Tourism of Dominica and Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere Constituency- Denise Charles has opened the Pointe Michel Multi-purpose Hardcourt with a short ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

Roseau, Dominica: Minister of Tourism of Dominica and Parliamentary Representative for the Soufriere Constituency- Denise Charles has opened the Pointe Michel Multi-purpose Hardcourt with a short ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

GIS Dominica shared glimpses of the ceremony and said, “Here are some photos of the ceremony and young basketballers putting the court to good use.”

This celebrated the completion of this exciting project, made possible through the collective efforts of the Government of Dominica, sponsors and members of the Pointe Michel Community.

Denise Charles also invited the basketball enthusiast for the official opening ceremony of the Pointe Michel Hard Court at 2 pm. It also presented Soufriere Constituency Balla Rama for the grand opening.

The opening featured the ultimate three vs three showdown at the Pointe Michel Hard Court Playing Field area. The registration fee for the showdown was $10.

Besides this, the prizes of the cash were also given to the winner by Minister Denise Charles. The prize details were as follows: 

  • The champion team who won the match were given a cash prize $600. 
  • The team who stood second were given the cash prize $300. 

Earlier, Rita Hammerli-Weshke, the Swiss Confederation’s Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Dominica, also visited Dominica. She also visited the Pointe Michel Community Center, Multi-Purpose Hard Court, and Bridon Bridge Project.

As per the reports, significant contributions were also made by the Swiss government for the development of the communities in Dominica after Hurricane Maria. 

Denise Charles stated,” We are Blessed in the Soufriere Constituency! Last Thursday, Her Excellency Rita Hammerli-Weshke, the Swiss Confederation’s Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Dominica, and I visited the Pointe Michel Community Center, Multi-Purpose Hard Court, and Bridon Bridge Project.”

While extending gratitude to the government, Minister Charles said,” We shall always be grateful to the Swiss Government for their crucial contributions to the growth and development of our communities especially, post Hurricane Maria.”
