Roseau, Dominica: Dominica commences the 2023-2024 track season with the first road race of the 2K/5K Road Race Series in Portsmouth on Sunday. The race kicked off at 9 am under the patronage of Amateur Athletics Association.
The first Road Race has turned out to be great success with great racing between the teams. The audience gathered in front of the American Canadian School of Medicine in Picard, Portsmouth and witnessed the start of the 5k race.
The runners have processed toward the northerly direction following the main road through Glanvillia. The athletes further run pass the Indian river and through the town, run past the purple turtle beach until they get to the round about where they took a left turn, run past the Intercontinental hotel and to Tantan.
The first race of the series was ended directly in front of Roots Rock Bar and Grill.
Besides this, the 2k race begun in the vicinity of the Portsmouth Labour Office. Runners again processed toward the northerly direction, tun past the purple turtle beach until they get to the round about where they took the lest turn, run past the Intercontinental hotel and to Tantan.
The race has ended directly in front of Roots Rock Bar and Grill in Dominica.
The aim of the staging of the road race series is to enhance the sporting skills of the athletes and make them capable of competing at the global stage. The races under the series will be held on weekends.
The athletes of the club participate in the tournament.
Last year, the finals of the race series were held on Sunday, December 18, 2023. Nylia John of Aithons Athletics Club won the girls 2k with a time of 8 minutes and 35 seconds. While Chance Marshall of the Dominica Grammar School topped the 2k boys in 7 minutes and 58 seconds.
Seven clubs had participated in the road race series last year which are as follows

- Stridorz Athletics C
Different athletes from these clubs participated in 5k and 2k road race series.
