Dominica: Castle Bruce Secondary School wins Sports Division U17 Football Championship

Castle Bruce Secondary Schools secured victory against the Dominica Grammar Schools in the Sports Division Secondary Schools Under 17 Football Championship on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

Roseau, Dominica: Castle Bruce Secondary Schools secured victory against the Dominica Grammar Schools in the Sports Division Secondary Schools Under 17 Football Championship on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. 

The Dominica Grammar School quest of winning all four Divisions in the Sports Division Secondary Schools Football Championship came to an emotional end with one school in tears and the other in celebration on Friday. 

Dominica Grammar School already Champions of the U20 and 13 and Under Divisions were gunning for their third championship in a row in the U17 Division. They got of to a perfect start when Dale Xavier converted from an error by the Castle Bruce Secondary School Goalkeeper to send the Dominica Grammar School into the interval with the one goal lead.

In the second half it was a different situation as the Castle Bruce Secondary began to get a foot hold in the game. The introduction of Nathaniel Roberts gave some added energy to Castle Bruce Secondary School and it wasn’t long after that the Castle Bruce Secondary School got the equalizer from the penalty spot.

Most Valuable player of the Match Fabio Drigo stepped up and converted beautifully from the spot after one of the Castle Bruce Secondary players was brought down in the box.

Minutes later it was substitute Nathaniel Roberts who made his presence felt when he out ran the Dominica Grammar School defense and rolled the ball past the Dominica Grammar School Goalkeeper to give the Castle Bruce Secondary School a 2 goals to 1 lead and sparking a noisy celebration by their fans present at the stadium.

The Dominica Grammar School went on all out attacks and missed several good equalizing opportunities but the Castle Bruce Secondary kept their nerves and defended strongly to the end of the 90 minutes to capture the 2023 Sports Division U17 Football Championship. This meant that the Dominica Grammar School quest for the clean sweep of the Championships are out of the door.

Sports Division of Dominica also extended congratulations to the Coaching staff and Students of the Castle Bruce Secondary School on winning the 2023 Sports Division U17 Championship.
