Dominica: Attorney at Law Wayne Norde intends to participate in polls, chides UWP for not contesting
Roseau, Dominica: The United Workers Party is now facing a backlash as more people are now stepping up to participate in the December 06 snap general elections. After Dr Irving Pascal, an Attorney at Law Wayne Norde expressed intentions for participating in the snap elections. He also chided at opposition UWP for not contesting the polls.
As per reports, Attorney at Law Wayne Norde has declared his intentions of contesting the December 6 General elections in Dominica. In a statement announced later Wednesday, he added that the calling of the election is constitutional and respects the election laws of the country.
He also said that there is nothing in the judgement of the Caribbean Court of Justice which says free and fair elections cannot be held under the current system.
The attorney went on to say that the United workers party has no objective and sensible basis for not contesting the elections and that their decision is not in the best interest of the country.
The United Workers Party, which tried to take leverage from boycotting the general elections, is now confused about its stance. Many members of the party are also planning to contest elections but under the independent category. This participation shows how desperately these people want to be part of the December 06 elections while spreading misinformation regarding the government for calling elections two years earlier.
Dominica goes into snap general elections on December 06, 2022, which is two years prior to the completion of a five-year term, which started from December 06, 2019, onwards. As the nomination date (18 November 2022) comes near, more independent candidates are stepping up to participate.
The United Workers Party, which is recognized as a major opposition party, and holds only three seats in the parliament, decided to step down, boycotting the elections. But, later, it turned out that the primary reason behind it was a lack of candidates, policies and, most notably a leader of the party.
