Dominica: Alick Athanaze named in West Indies squad for test series against SA

Alick Athanaze of the Commonwealth of Dominica has been named to the Senior Men's West Indies Team and the 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test Series against South Africa.

Roseau, Dominica: Alick Athanaze of the Commonwealth of Dominica has been named to the Senior Men’s West Indies Team and the 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test Series against South Africa.

Athanaze, the left-handed batter, is the captain of Windward Islands Volcanoes, while Jordan, the right-arm seam bowler, plays for Barbados Pride.

Former West Indies under 19 player and Windward Islands Volcanoes player Alick Athanaze is set to be announced as the newest member of the senior Men West Indies team for the upcoming series against South Africa.

Prime Minister of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, also took to social media and extended greetings to Alick Athanaze. He cited, “Congratulations to Dominica’s Alick Athanaze, who has been named to the Senior Men’s West Indies Team.” 

While hailing Athanaze, PM Roosevelt Skerrit stated that this is a momentous achievement for young Athanaze, the Windward Islands Volcanoes Captain, who hails from the community of Grand Bay.

“The Government and People of Dominica are immensely proud and stand in full support of Athanaze as he joins the regional side for the tour of South Africa, which bowls off on February 28,” said the prime minister. 

PM Roosevelt Skerrit added that just off his first century in regional First Class cricket earlier this month, Athanaze’s selection is yet another gratifying moment for local cricket fans who have tracked his rise over the years.

“We celebrate with him. Very best wishes for his continued success, “said the prime minister.
