Dominica: Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge to serve as Sports Ambassador

Roeau, Dominica: West Indies Cricketers Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge will be appointed as Sports Ambassadors for the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The Government of Dominica has appointed these sports stars as the ambassador in order to honour them for their recent performance as part of the Senior Men’s West Indies Cricket Team.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit took to Facebook and expressed pleasure in announcing the appointment of these sports personalities. He said that the Government of Dominica will extend their full support to them. 

PM Skerrit also met with the two cricketers earlier today to congratulate them on the recent successes in their cricketing careers and assure them of the Government’s support. The two were part of the Senior Men’s West Indies Cricket Team for the recently concluded One Day International series against the United Arab Emirates.

While making a stunning debut for the West Indies, Athanaze secured a record-equaling fifty in the third ODI against the hosts on June 9, 2023. He also led the Windward Islands Volcanoes as the Captain for four days. He made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands in 2018. 

Athanaze also became the leading run scorer in the 2022-2023 Regional Four-Day Competition. He also secured the position as the leading run-scorer of the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Further, the government of Dominica also outlined the profile of Kavem Hodge, who made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands in 2012. He was also the leading run-scorer in the 2019-2020 Regional Super 50 tournament for the Windwards. The first ODI against the UAE on June 4, 2023, was his debut for ODI.  

Hodge previously played for the Saint Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit extended wishes to the two sportsmen on their achievements. He congratulated the two sportsmen and wished them continued success in their cricketing careers. These two Dominicans also featured on a West Indies team.
