Dominica: The work has commenced on the clearing of 63 acres of land in Wesley for the construction of the international airport. The work includes the removal of shrubs and debris to facilitate the geotechnical studies for the airport’s construction.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit led delegation reached the Wesley site on Monday, where he expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the works. Prime Minister during his address said that Lab has been completed with all the necessary equipment and it would be installed in the next few days including equipment needed for the geotechnical surveys and studies, which are very important components for construction.

“We are very satisfied with the quality of work,” said PM Skerrit.
The delegation also visited the Joe Burton estate in Wesley where 31 houses are under construction to facilitate the relocation of residents for the construction of the international airport.
“We visited the housing where about 31 homes have been built for individuals whom we acquired properties from and have agreed for the government to build for them,” said PM Skerrit.
He further added that those homes are on schedule and the quality is excellent as all homes have been constructed by local construction contractors and with a significant number of workers all the materials are procured locally from local suppliers from tiles to the concrete into cement, all of the components of galvanise and lumber. “This is a significant boost to the construction sector.”
The new international airport will not only boost the tourism sector of the country, but it will also open new business opportunities for the people. Prime Minister Skerrit has announced that the construction would finish by 2024 and Dominica will finally be able to welcome international long haul flights from across the world.
Montreal Management Consultants Est (MMCE) has taken the contract of building the international airport.
