Prime Minsiter of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit invited Minister for Tourism, International Transport and Maritime Initiatives Denise Charles for his weekly Annou Pale show.
During the show, PM Skerrit congratulated the public of Dominica on the significant achievement of a direct flight by American Airlines from Miami to the Douglas Charles Airport.
The second flight had landed at the grounds of Dominica on Saturday, and it is further scheduled to increase the mark by making it to 3 times a week by January 10, 2022.
While marking its significance, PM Skerrit said, “It will open up an opportunity for people in tourism and business sectors. Moreover, we are building Dominica bit by bit, block by block to secure an advanced economy.”
“We are committed to building an international airport which we expect will open up additional opportunities for direct travel from cities around the world,” added the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister of Dominica, Denise Charles, who was among the first passenger to board a direct flight from Miami to Dominica, said, “It was a great excitement as access was always a priority for people to directly having access to the grounds of Dominica from countries around the world.”
“It all began with the assistance of the American envoy team as they were keenly looking for the most undeserved places in the Caribbean. As with the outbreak in global pandemic during Covid-19, the Caribbean has been considered as the safest place to live,” she further noted.
Despite the advent of safe landing, the technical department of American Airlines has greenlighted the process to recognise the commercial team to re-look at the policies.
Significance of direct flight from Miami to Dominica-
Dominica is a positive outcome as it is considered a five-star tourist location worldwide. During the Covid-19, Dominica has also got 71 destinations certified to welcome tourists worldwide.
As Dominica is already in talks with many countries and all of them are in queue to reach Dominica, they are waiting for the performance of American Airlines.
Embarking on the issue of vaccination, Denise Charles marked that, “To be the part of stake in nature, one needs to get themself vaccinated to reduce the spread of the virus.
Marking on the outlook of the cruise season, so far, 27 cruises have disembarked 10,000 passengers, and it is expected to have 221 calls for this season.
Moreover, operating on the security protocols, the Ministry of Tourism has ensured that stakeholders have been trained to manage and control things. Travellers are also advised to follow safety protocols.
Ministry has also certified a few stakeholders and locations where travellers can have access.
Meanwhile, PM Skerrit appreciated the efforts of Minister of Tourism Denise Charles, the parliamentary secretary- Shakira Lockett, the air access committee and others.
