Dimitrios urges US government to lift blockade from Cuba

The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Dimitrios Papadimoulis, has requested the government of the United States to cease the blockade of Cuba in his recent interview.

Cuba: The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Dimitrios Papadimoulis, has requested the government of the United States to cease the blockade of Cuba in his recent interview.

Dimitrios called this blockade as an anachronous and inhumane act and stated that “The economic bans imposed on Cuba by the United States government has seriously affected the country’s development potential and inhumanely limit and the standard of living of the people of Cuba island.”

Dimitrios has a strong belief that the European Union – EU can play a part of an honest mediator between Cuba and the United States in order to
recapitulate dialogue, to lift the blockade, and to normalize the relations between the two countries.

Following the statement, he added, “I would love to express my full solidarity and respect for the people of Cuba and mark my commitment in improving dialogue and understanding between the EU and Cuba.”

He further expressed his support with Cuba and cited, “I support the Cuban people in their struggle, hoping that they prosper and have the same development opportunities as all the peoples of the world have. The Cuban people deserve nothing less.”

Dimitrios also appreciated the presence of the group of friendship and solidarity with the people of Cuba in the European Parliament and called for both legislatures to be means for a strengthened dialogue and to strengthen connections to get to know, understand and respect each other.

During his interview, he also appreciated the Cuban government’s effort of sending 56 medical brigades to 40 nations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Several other associations and seventy nations have also shown their support with Cuba and have urged the Joe Biden administration to lift the blockade from Cuba as it is affecting the Cuban economy.

Despite this, around fifty boats participated in the Cuba’s Cienfuegos Bay, followed by bikers and people waving flags on the shore against the US blockade and demanded to lift sanctions amid the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
