Nevis: The small island nation of Nevis is witnessing the celebration of the authentic and vibrant culture through the staging of the Culturama Festival. Oscar Astro Browne was crowned Kaiso King of Nevis in the festival, which is the unifying the national and Nevisian Kaiso King titles.

Premier of Nevis and the Leader of Concerned Citizens Movement- Mark Brantley penned down his warm greetings and best wishes to Oscar Astro Browne on this achievement. He stated that sometimes we must stop and recognize greatness among them. Last night Oscar Astro Browne was crowned Kaiso King of Nevis, yet again unifying the national and Nevisian Kaiso King titles. He is the only Nevisian who has been able to achieve this remarkable feat.

“I wish to publicly record my personal congratulations to my brother from small King Astro and to recognize him publicly as we must now all acknowledge that he is among the greatest Kaisonians that our country has ever seen,” said the Premier.

Mark Brantley added, “King, my brother, may God continue to bless, guide guard and keep you. You are loved by one and all, and you deserve every commendation.”

I’m not obligated to win. I’m only obligated to keep trying and to do the best that I can every day.”

The mantra above has been my driving force in preparation for this year’s Culturama 48 Senior Kaiso Competition. The good graces of the Almighty and the support of my wife, son, relatives, and friends have kept me anchored throughout this entire journey.

Season after season, I rely on my lyricist Crieghton Crusader Pencheon to pen my vision of a winning piece and for this season, he delivered in grand style. It’s my deep conviction that “De Spell” is our most creative piece to have ever been produced, which is closely challenged by the brilliance of “Movie.” The dual pieces cemented my belief that our journey back to the top was well chartered. Pencheon, wheresoever this journey may take me, I’m definitely taking you with me.

My two contributions to the art form, firstly De Spell was recorded, mixed and mastered at Cliffette Ip Isaac’s Atlantix Studios and Movie was recorded, mixed and mastered at Masablue’s Country Kitchen. In the end, the “meals” resulted in a delightful culinary experience. Ip Isaac and Cory Tyson and Team, big up yourselves!

The band! The Culturama Allstar Band!! This band, along with the backup singers, did an EXCEPTIONAL job in reproducing my songs and ensuring that everything flowed smoothly and sweetly. I truly hope that they remain a mainstay for this event.

My on-stage performers, stage director, fashion designer, and props producer ensured that my final performances were properly orchestrated and executed. I’m eternally grateful for your touch and insight. Thank you!

To my fans, cheerleaders, and well-wishers in Nevis, St. Kitts and further afield, I felt your love, excitement, and energy. I felt your unwavering support. Thank you and take a bow with me.

I must use this opportunity to congratulate the Ministry of Social Development, sponsors, and Culturama Committee and Subcommittee for continually providing this platform for us, social commentators to comment on our various topics and issues. We are proud of our product! Culturama is for all ah we!

In the same breath, I must commend the ferociousness of all of the calypsonians of this competition. We must continue to showcase our talent and preserve this peculiar type of tradition. What’s certain is that there could never be a King Astro without all of you. You’ve pushed and inspired me over the years. You all are deeply, deeply appreciated.

I end where I started;

“I’m not obligated to win. I’m only obligated to keep trying and to do the best that I can every day.”
