Patricia Scotland– sixth and first lady secretary general of the Commonwealth, expressed pleasure to be back in Kigali, Rwanda, where she met with Clementine Mukeka, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Int. Cooperation Rwanda Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

She further assured that she would be speaking at #AGRF2022 about The Commonwealth’s initiatives to fight #Climate Change and the importance of #Food Security in the #Commonwealth. She will also be meeting government officials and following up on #CHOGM2022.

Patricia Scotland also extended Warm congratulations to President-Elect William Somoei Ruto on being declared the duly elected 5th President of #Kenya. She welcomes the commitment of all parties to Kenya’s election resolution procedures and their recognition of the Supreme Court’s decision to confirm the results.

Earlier, she also visited Gabon- newest member of the Commonwealth last week. She expressed pleasure to attend #Africa Climate Week last week. I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to President Ali Bongo Ondimba, the Government and the people of #Gabon for the warm welcome I received during my visit.

“As we move to #COP27, we must shift focus to implementing sustainable solutions in the fight against #Climate Change,”said the Commonwealth Secretary General.

She added that as one of the world’s leading carbon-negative countries, Gabon could provide a model for best practices for other #Commonwealth members, particularly when it comes to its management of the #Congo Basin, its #Climate Change mitigation strategy, carbon neutral policies and its move to diversify its economy towards a #Green Economy.

Patricia Scotland also had the privilege of seeing some of the environmental conservation work in Gabon. In her conversations with Professor Lee White CBE and others, they discussed collaboration and building on Gabon’s environmental success via Commonwealth climate initiatives: Blue Charter, Commonwealth CFAH and Living Lands.
