Patricia Scotland– Secretary General of the Commonwealth, delivered the keynote address at the City of London and also held a Black History talk with the Kenneth Olisa OBE.

The talks were mainly focused on the life journeys in the United Kingdom and expressed pleasure after seeing the progress that was made in inclusion.

CSG Patricia Scotland took to social media and wrote, “Pleasure to speak at a City of London Black History talk with the great Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE about our life journeys in the UK, the progress we’ve made on #inclusion and the work still to be done.”

She also stressed that they want to work towards a day when the colour of the skin will no longer be a central issue to discuss. She added, “We want to work towards a day when the colour of the skin is no longer a central issue for comment.”

Outlining the significance of Black History, CSG Patricia Scotland said that black History is all of history. The role women have played in making that history is an important one which we should never forget. Women like Rosa Parks led the march with Martin Luther King, and many others followed. They should never be forgotten.

Earlier, she also conducted a meeting with President Samia Suluhu of Tanzania on the margins of WISH Qatar 2022. They both share a deep commitment to #Commonwealth values and tackling today’s global challenges. Through the Commonwealth, she will continue working together to achieve our shared goals.

Patricia Scotland stated that the COVID-19 response illustrated inequity, especially in vaccines. Going forward, collaborations and partnerships are crucial for building resilient health systems and healthier populations. Using collective intelligence, they can achieve impossible-looking tasks.

“At WISH Qatar 2022, I shared reflections on the Commonwealth’s COVID-19 experience, lessons learned and recovery efforts. As we look beyond the pandemic, we must ensure that our health systems are robust and resilient to absorb shocks caused by future health-related emergencies, “said the CSG.
