Patricia Scotland- sixth and first lady secretary general of the Commonwealth, who is currently on her four-day visit to Gabon, met with the President of the newest member of the Commonwealth family- Ali Bongo Ondimba.
In the meeting, CSG Patricia Scotland presented a copy of the Commonwealth Charter to the President. Through her social media, she shared a glimpse of her meeting with photos where the caption was, “Today I had the great honour of presenting President Ali Bongo Ondimba with a copy of the #Commonwealth Charter.”

She considers the meeting significant as Gabon becomes the 55th country of the Commonwealth family. Their meeting featured several meetings of concern which included the strategical partnership of the country with the Commonwealth.
“As one of our newest members, this meeting was important as we discussed how #Gabon can benefit from and participate with The Commonwealth family,” said the CSG.
She also feels great honour and privilege to be bestowed with the Commander of the Gabonese National Order of Merit – one of the highest honours in #Gabon – on her first official visit.

During her visit, she extended gratitude to Dr Simone Mensah and the staff at Foundation Sylvia Bongo Ondimba pour la Famille for making her feel so welcome yesterday.
Patricia Scotland asserted that she was deeply inspired by the amazing work done by the country for vulnerable women and children.
She said, “I was deeply inspired by the amazing work and humbled to have had the chance to personally visit to see what’s being done for vulnerable women and children in #Gabon.”
The work being done at Fondation SBO is close to her heart, so she is particularly pleased with Sylvia Bongo Ondimba’s initiative and commitment to the project. She looks forward to seeing what they can do together as part of the wider efforts to achieve #Gabon’s Sustainable Development Goals.
