CSG Patricia Scotland meets Minister of State of Nigeria- Sharon Ikeazor at UNOC2022

In the meeting, both indulged in various matters of discussion where CSG Patricia Scotland shared her re-energizing and re-emerging vision for the Commonwealth and its member states.

Secretary-General of the Commonwealth- Patricia Scotland expressed pleasure to catch up with Minister of State at the Federal Ministry of Environment of Nigeria Sharon Ikeazor at UNOC202 and to receive her warm support for the work we deliver for the Commonwealth on #Ocean and Climate Change, including the Living Lands Charter.

In the meeting, both indulged in various matters of discussion where CSG Patricia Scotland shared her re-energizing and re-emerging vision for the Commonwealth and its member states.

She felt extremely proud to share the story of the Commonwealth Blue Charter with a global audience at UNOC 2022 and listen to the views of member countries and partners on how we can build on our unique ‘Action Group’ model to support Ocean Action Climate Action.

Further, Patricia Scotland also had an Excellent meeting with Sefania Nawadra, Director General of Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme – SPREP and Dr Audrey Aumua, CEO of The Fred Hollows Foundation, in the margins of #UNOC2022.

CSG Scotland stressed, “Coordination with regional organizations is key to effectively serving the needs of our #Commonwealth member states. We discussed #Pacific priorities on #Environment for collaboration.”

While outlining the purpose of UNOC2022, Patricia Scotland noted that at UNOC2022, she showcased the joint work with Stimson Center through the #CORVI Project to trial a new rapid assessment protocol to assess #ocean and climate risk in Barbados, Kiribati and SriLanka.

She stated, “We learned a great deal from the experiences and lessons they shared.”

CSG Patricia Scotland underscored that Exactly a week ago, Commonwealth leaders gathered for the #CHOGM2022 Opening Ceremony in #Rwanda. Together, they remembered all those who had died during the COVID-19 pandemic, and she paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen’s extraordinary service.

“I am often asked what the #Commonwealth means to me and in the world today. In my speech, I tried to answer,” she added.
