CSG Patricia Scotland congratulates Liz Truss on becoming UK PM

Patricia Scotland- sixth and the first lady secretary general of the Commonwealth, extended warm greetings and congratulations to Liz Truss on becoming the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Patricia Scotland stated that the Commonwealth family looks forward to working with the new government of the United Kingdom. She noted, “I know that the whole #Commonwealth family looks forward to continuing to work with the UK Government on tackling the pressing issues of our time.”

Patricia Scotland, who is currently on her visit to Kigali, Rwanda, participated in a number of activities. She expressed being honoured to attend the opening of the AGRF2022 Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, where she stated that the Commonwealth is committed to working with member governments and the private sector, to build Food Security and capacity through the Connectivity Agenda and the Digital Agriculture work.

She also expressed pleasure in meeting with Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Patricia Scotland added, “While the Minister and I discussed the successes of CHOGM2022, we agreed on the importance of looking forward during Rwanda’s time as Chair-in-Office, especially on shared goals.”

Scotland added that there is a real opportunity for The Commonwealth and Government of Rwanda to lead the way forward, not only for Africa but the Commonwealth and the world.

“We agreed on the importance of working together on digital innovations, youth, health, sport, food security and agriculture, among others,” said the secretary general.

She asserted that the Commonwealth looked forward to working with Paul Kagame, Vincent Biruta and the Government of Rwanda with other Commonwealth member countries on the CHOGM2022 communique, delivering a common future and connecting, innovating and transforming the Commonwealth.

It was a pleasure to meet with the Prime Minister of Rwanda, Dr Edouard Ngirente, and AGRA Alliance President, Dr Agnes Kalibata, during AGRF2022.

“We discussed the successes of CHOGM2022 and how The Commonwealth can assist Rwanda and other member countries in Food Security through the #Connectivity Agenda and Living Lands, “said Scotland.
