CSG Patricia Scotland attends Pacifica Islands Forum 2022, meets Fiji PM Frank Bainimarama 

Patricia Scotland held an interactive engagement with Prime Minister of Fiji- Frank Bainimarama. She also applauded the country for the successful hosting of the PIF 2022 and stated that it was a great time with PM Bainimarama.

Fiji: Secretary General of the Commonwealth– Patricia Scotland attended the annual leaders’ meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum, which is taking place in Suva, Fiji.

Patricia Scotland held an interactive engagement with Prime Minister of Fiji- Frank Bainimarama. She also applauded the country for the successful hosting of the PIF 2022 and stated that it was a great time with PM Bainimarama. 

Through her social media, CSG Patricia Scotland noted, “A wonderful host in Fiji and Pacific Island Forum 2022 chair, always great to see Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama.” 

She also discussed various issues related to the matters of the concerns of the Small Island Developing States with the Fiji Prime Minister and expressed gratitude for remaining greater supporters of the initiatives taken by the Commonwealth, such as the Blue Charter and Commonwealth CFA H, to combat the major global issues called climate change. 

CSG Patricia Scotland outlined, “Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama has always been a strong supporter of #Commonwealth initiatives, such as the Blue Charter and Commonwealth CFAH, to combat #climatechange and support #SIDS.” 

Patricia Scotland expressed pleasure to visit the Blue Pacifica Continent and to reaffirm the longstanding relations between the Pacific Continent and the Commonwealth. 

CSG Scotland asserted that she always looks forward to listening to the members and partners at PIF 2022 to celebrate and amplify the Pacifica voice for global action. 

“It is always a great pleasure to visit the Blue Pacific Continent and to reaffirm our longstanding relations with #Pacific friends. I look forward to listening to our members & partners at PIF2022 #PIFLM51 to celebrate & amplify the Pacific voice for global action,” she added. 

Further, Vice President of the United States- Kamala Harris also addressed the Pacifica Island Forum 2022. Harris stressed upon the partner roles to keep the focus on “unity” within the forum.

“We recognise that in recent years, the Pacific Islands may not have received in diplomatic attention and support that you deserve,” added Kamala Harris, addressing Pacific ministers virtually today in Suva. Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta and Australia’s Penny Wong of New Zealand were also present at the Forum.
