Castries, Saint Lucia: The Northern Cluster Grassroots youngsters completed victories over Shrewsbury School Team #1 and Team #2 from the UK at the Gros Islet Playing Field of Saint Lucia on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
The Northern Cluster Grassroots 13 years and the representative team continues engagement with UK School teams who are currently in Saint Lucia. The Northern Cluster Grassroots batting first in a 15 over a side match, made 156 for 4 in 15 overs, with Andrus Paul making 30 not out, Kanil Nelson 26, Cypriani Norville 12 and Neil Poyotte 10.
In reply, Shrewsbury School was dismissed for 99 in 17 overs.
The wicket takers for the Northern Cluster Grassroots Team were; Ethan Forde and Joel Butcher with two wickets each and one wicket each to Liam Stevens, Andrus Paul, Cypriani Norville, Tristan Wilson and Troy ‘Baby Shark’ Prospere.
In the 2nd game for the day, the Northern Cluster Grassroots Team defeated their UK compatriots; Shrewsbury School by 115 runs.
The Northern Cluster Grassroots batting first made 185 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs, with Daniel Lorde top scoring with a well played 51 before he was asked to retire.
Other useful scores came from Kanil Nelson with 33, Neil Poyotte 25 retired, Kareem Francis, 23 not out and Ethan Perineau with 9 not out.
In reply, the Shrewsbury School were restricted to 70 all out in 20 overs.
The wicket takers for the Northern Cluster Grassroots 13 years and under representative team were; Andrus Paul, Cypriani Norville, Aiden Scholar, Kareem Francis, Troy Prospere and Tristan Wilson, with one wicket each.
The Saturday morning Northern Cluster Grassroots Cricket Development Program continued on March 25, 2023 with yet another cricket enhancement and development training session at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground of Saint Lucia.
The three and a half (3 1/2 hour) long session took the following format:
* Prayers/ Welcome.
* Ice breaking activity.
* Warm up activities (catching game). Agility & Flexibility.
* Throwing/ Fielding drills.
* Extensive fielding with Under 19 and senior players
* Younger participants ages 11 years and under were engaged in game sense in batting & bowling).
* Mini cricket match.
The coaches who facilitated the highly energetic training session were Alton Crafton, Allian Asby and Mateo Boulonge with assistance from Roseline Preville.
